AMANDA, 37, lives in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Notts, with her husband Matthew, a 34-year-old teacher, and their children, Jonah, three, and Finley, 11 months.

WHEN Jonah started breaking Amanda's necklaces and putting them in his mouth as a baby, she realised there was a gap in the market - and set up her company, Mama Jewels, to make and sell "mummy-proof" jewellery.

She says: "There were nursing necklaces on the market, but I wanted something that looked like regular jewellery rather than the frumpy mum pieces on offer.

"Our jewellery can be washed and sterilised and is non-toxic."

Mama Jewels launched in May and Amanda is hoping to expand to supply High Street stores in the future.

Hi Amanda,

Our necklaces arrived this morning, I love mine! The colour is perfect, and I was really please with the "yummy mummy" bead on the bracelet, by the pics on the website I had been worried it would be huge but its subtle, just what I wanted. I've attached some pictures, as you can see, I was the last person in the house to try it on, the little ones loved it so much :-) and it was such a joy to allow them to play with it and not worry or get cross about it. My daughter Megan has a thing about objects, and hates all baby toys, so this is perfect for her to play with, rather than my phone or keys! She is a majorly fussy nurser and grabs, pulls scratches etc etc til my eyes are watering at every feed, but now she'd rather fiddle with my necklace!! I'm so relieved, I wish I'd got one when she was tiny. If her hand strays now, I just close her fingers around the chunky beads and she's happy again! (If only I could wear it in bed!). My pregnant friend was delighted with her set, and her hubby thought the reminder bracelet was genius :-) she was especially pleased it could go in the steriliser. Please find attached a pic of us both togthers, as you can see, we have very different styles, but you have a neclacke for everyone! Another use of the nursing necklace I have found that may be another niche in the market is as a sling toy. I carry Megan in a sling, mainly on my back now she is bigger, and she does sometimes pull my hair or scratch my neck while she's up there. But today when I wore my necklace, she just pulled that round to the back and played with that instead! I don't usually wear jewelrey for fear of it breaking, so its so great not to have to worry. If i do manage to get a pic of her playing with it while riding in the sling i will send it to you. Feel free to use any of the images attached, I will have to ask my friend if you want to use the one of us both though!

I have always liked jewellery but was worried my children would break and swallow the pieces, so have tended not to wear much over the past couple of years. Then I saw the ads for your jewellery in Baby London and thought it was just the thing I needed to keep my teething son's mind occupied whilst breastfeeding. So I ordered a necklace, just to see. It came very promptly and the packaging was lovely, which was an added bonus. It was prettier than the photo on the website showed. But the best thing was the weight of the necklace - so light - as so many necklaces can be rather on the heavy side. My son, and I hope I am not tempting fate here, has not bitten me once since it arrived, as he has been too interested in playing with the necklace, and he is feeding well. I have even worn it on nights out away from the kids and have had plenty of positive comments! So I have now placed my second (larger) order and am looking forward to it arriving very soon!
