The Mama Jewels Story

 'I looked around the baby group and realised that most of the mums, like me had stopped wearing jewellery, when I asked why they said ‘Our children keep breaking our jewellery so we just had to stop wearing it’ That was the moment I decided to design a necklace that a baby can’t break, can be washed, sterilised and is completely non-toxic for when babies chomp on it,  but still looks gorgeous. Mama Jewels was born!'

Way back in 2006, my life changed in a wonderful way, my beautiful son Jonah George was born and a love affair began. Unfortunately, at least for a while, my love affair with jewellery was put on hold. I have been designing and making jewellery as since 2001 and successfully selling elegant, trend led jewellery. Suddenly I was unable to wear my own designs for fear of them being broken, sucked chewed and pulled.

Actually, on the rare occasion that I managed to leave the house after 5pm for those first few months I was able to wear them, but only if my son wasn't around. Being a huge Jewellery Junky and renown for my ability to accessorise to the hilt, I was stumped and began to search for some jewellery that was child friendly but didn't look like a toy.

I found quite a few items on the market that were child friendly, but not particularly friendly to a Mum who wanted to retain a bit of style and remain a 'person' whilst accommodating a young baby and then toddler.

The Mama Jewels design began: I did plenty of research with local Yummy Mummies and focused on the issues that Mums wanted;

Jewellery that was in line with current trends.

I now have a new little boy, Finley Isaac and he has inspired me even further. He loves to play with and chew the sparkly beads and loves even more that Mummy doesn’t keep saying NO and she still looks glamorous!
